We're elevating UpdraftCentral, our powerful platform designed to empower website owners. UpdraftCentral is forming a big part of our future plans, and we're looking for a senior contributor to help us achieve our ambitious goals.

You will join an established and collaborative team of talented developers, contributing to the full development lifecycle of the next generation of UpdraftCentral. This is a crucial role where your deep technical skills will directly influence architectural decisions, coding standards, and the sophisticated development of our product.

You will have the option to choose your own hours up to 40 per week, and you can work remotely from anywhere in the world, we simply ask that you have 4 hours of crossover with UK working hours per day.

What You'll Be Doing :
  • Drive Complex Development : Lead by example in the design, development, and implementation of new features, complex modules, and critical bug fixes across the entire stack, utilizing PHP, JavaScript, and WordPress. This includes significant contributions to backend development, server optimization, and hosting solutions.
  • Ensure Highest Standards : Champion best practices through code review and peer review, ensuring the highest standards for clean, efficient, secure, and well-documented code across the team.
  • Technical Mentorship & Guidance : Actively mentor and offer technical guidance to other developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Your expertise will be key in elevating the team's overall technical capabilities.
  • Architectural Contributions : Collaborate with the team to define and evolve the technical architecture of UpdraftCentral, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Problem Solving & Research : Proactively research, diagnose, and resolve complex technical challenges, working independently or in collaboration with team members and support.
  • Strategic Collaboration : Work closely with product owners and stakeholders to translate requirements into technical specifications and deliver impactful solutions.

Your exact responsibilities will depend on your experience, how this fits with other members of the team and subject to discussion and agreement!

Requirements
  • 3+ years of significant experience in PHP WordPress Plugin Development, with a deep understanding of the WordPress ecosystem, best practices, and API.
  • Proven experience in code review or peer review, with a strong ability to provide constructive feedback and enforce coding standards.
  • Demonstrated ability in mentoring and offering technical guidance to less experienced developers.
  • Expert-level proficiency in PHP, with experience in developing complex, object-oriented applications.
  • Strong command of JavaScript & jQuery, essential for our front-end interfaces.
  • Solid understanding and practical experience with SQL databases (e.g., MySQL), including database design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Extensive experience with server environments and hosting configurations (e.g., Apache, Nginx, cloud platforms) is a huge plus and highly valued.
  • Familiarity with version control systems like Git / GitHub / GitLab.
  • Experience with optimizing plugin performance and prefetching data is highly desirable.
