Responsibilities
- Technical Underwriting – Underwrite marine business within authority, conduct rigorous risk assessment considering loss control, claims history and other risk management factors; develop, negotiate and sign off large programs, motivate limits, and structure policies where referral is required.
- Portfolio Management – Manage marine portfolio accounts for profitable growth, assess overall performance, and recommend adjustments to the Profit Centre Manager.
- Provide accurate monthly management information, including submissions, bind rate, average premium, and total premium.
- Seek synergies and participate in cross‑sell initiatives with other profit centres.
- Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with clients and brokers.
- Represent AIG on industry bodies, professional associations, and organizations.
- Keep abreast of market changes and trends; adhere to internal SLA’s to ensure operational efficiency and achievement of agreed customer service standards.
- Expense control – manage all expenses within budget and continually work to reduce the expense ratio through efficiency improvements.
- Audit and Compliance – ensure adherence to audit requirements and regulatory and compliance standards.
Qualifications
- Graduate level degree in business, economics, insurance or marketing.
- Insurance qualification – FAIS compliant.
- 5‑10 years of marine underwriting experience in line of business.
- Experience in underwriting preferred; other relevant professional experience also acceptable.
- Strong communication, networking and relationship‑building skills.
- Good organizational and time‑management skills.
