A leading engineering firm in Johannesburg is seeking a highly skilled Senior Specialist Engineer specializing in water. This permanent role requires a minimum of 20 years in engineering, strong managerial capabilities, and a Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Key responsibilities include providing technical guidance, conducting feasibility studies, and ensuring project compliance with standards. The salary range is negotiable, between R900,000 and R1,300,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

  • 20+ years experience in a relevant engineering environment.
  • Strong technical and managerial experience and skills.
  • Good understanding of at least two primary General Conditions of Contract (GCC, FIDIC, NEC, JBCC).

About the job Senior Specialist Engineer (Water)

A well-established engineering organisation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Specialist Engineer with Specialisation in water to join their team. This is a permanent position at a senior level, requiring a minimum of 20+ years of experience in the field. Flexi hours.

Please take note that this is a SENIOR position that requires strong Technical and Managerial experience and skills.

Duties

  • Promoting and applying employee engagement practices and concepts, especially in relation to recognition, empowerment, supportive feedback, partnering, expectations, consideration, and trust.
  • To perform all work in accordance with the Companys Quality Management System (QMS), Policies and Standards
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior staff,
  • Signing off designs and or drawings as a responsible professional engineer,
  • Feasibility studies, options analysis and master planning,
  • Developing Scope of Work for projects - in consultation with Client or independently,
  • Provide engineering expertise and collaborate with consultants/specialists in major technical support areas,
  • Where required, represent the Business Unit on local industry groups,
  • Implement standardization, planning, and best practice initiatives in line with global and regional engineering practices,
  • Establish design tools, software, relevant codes and standards to be used on the project,
  • Assign work tasks to individuals and continuously monitor progress and quality
  • Schedule, coordinate and participate in engineering design reviews
  • Promote and maintain the application of ethical and professional practices in the execution of engineering work
  • Participate in staff development through mentoring, development of training material, conducting training seminars, and performance appraisal input and counselling
  • Ensure that Quality Assurance policies are applied
  • Provide input to contract negotiations and business plans
  • Work closely with the design teams during design and procurement and post-award procedures to ensure timely completion of designs to meet budget and programme
  • Work closely with the construction monitoring teams and contractors representatives during the construction phase of projects to ensure timely completion of construction to meet budget and programme
  • Prepare and/or manage the preparation of technical reports, designs, cost estimates, procurement documentation, bills of quantities and technical specifications, contract documentation, as-built drawings and operation and maintenance manuals related to designs produced by the project team
  • Attend site visits/meetings

  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, management, clients, contractors, visitors, etc
  • Excellent technical report writing skills
  • Ability to manage and direct multiple design teams
