An engineering services firm in South Africa seeks a Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in design and construction of mechanical infrastructure. The ideal candidate will manage projects, ensure compliance with standards, and lead a team. Expertise in bulk steel water pipelines and a valid driver's license are necessary. Salary is negotiable, and the role requires travel within South Africa and SADC. Applications must include a CV and supporting documents.
Job Summary Reports to the HOD, directing, coordinating, initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling mechanical engineering design projects.
Drives general mechanical engineering design deliverables.
Key Responsibilities Design of mechanical infrastructure including abstraction works, pump station piping and associated equipment.
Preparing tender documents as a basis for construction.
Reviewing technical submissions.
Working collaboratively with other design departments.
Supporting other project managers and directors within the business.
Keeping up to date with environmental matters and policies.
Presenting technical data or project results to both technical and non-technical clients and colleagues.
Monitoring the progress of projects from start to finish – from feasibility to handover.
Controlling and managing budgets at project level.
Carrying out site supervision of construction works on short and long durations.
Ensuring compliance with design / specifications and standards.
Ensuring compliance with project programme and all knowledge areas.
Attending site meetings and preparing reports.
Issuing site instructions and responding to RFIs from the contractor.
Liaising with the Head Office for site activities.
Performing any ad-hoc office or site duties as assigned by the Lead Mechanical Engineer.
BEng Honors in Mechanical Engineering.
5 years Professional Registration with ECSA or any recognized professional body.
15+ years' experience after graduation.
Extensive experience in design and construction of bulk steel water pipelines, pump stations, reservoirs, abstraction works and water treatment plants.
Experience managing a team of junior and senior employees.
Proven track in management and leadership within a consulting firm.
Quality Management ensuring ISO compliance.
Regular inter-provincial and international site visits and meetings.
A valid Driver's license.
Required to travel within South Africa and SADC where South Zambesi is operating.
Knowledge of Design Compliance standards – ACT, Labour Relations Act, Employment Equity Act, Fluid Design Software, CAD.
Salary is negotiable.

Ability to deliver required results while working in a high-pressure environment.
