CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To facilitate teaching and learning in Mathematics at undergraduate and postgraduate level, to contribute to the administration of the department as needed, and to undertake research.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Develop course material for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching modules.
  • Attract external funding and provide research supervision to postgraduate students.
  • Provide expertise in Functional Analysis, Abstract Algebra, Discreet Mathematics or any other discipline in Pure Mathematics or Mathematics Education.
  • Perform teaching-related and departmental administrative duties.
  • Conduct research and publish results in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Interact with relevant industry groups, government departments and independent research institutes (where applicable) to further the goals of the Department and of the University.
  • Provide academic leadership.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum qualification is a Ph.D. degree relevant to the field of Mathematics.
  • Evidence of successful teaching at all levels and throughput.
  • Minimum of 1-5 years relevant working experience, including lecturing experience.
  • Evidence of research publications in national accredited conferences and/or DHET accredited journals in related fields.
  • A comprehensive CV must accompany the application, together with a letter motivating why the candidate should be considered for the post.
  • Candidates may be required to deliver a short lecture on an approved topic.
