Join Jem as a Sales Development Representative! We're on a mission to build the best HR system for deskless workforces and we’re looking for a driven SDR to help us grow.
Responsibilities
- Your core mission is to identify and engage potential customers, generate new business opportunities and book outbound meetings through cold calls, emails, social outreach, networking and independent research.
- Contact and qualify potential customers.
- Book outbound meetings through cold calls, emails, social outreach, networking and independent research.
- Set appointments and follow up on leads.
- Take a conscientious approach to sales, optimising your own leads and process to become highly effective at qualifying different kinds of leads.
- Conduct sales discovery with prospects to find out their pain points.
- Build trusting relationships with key stakeholders.
- Follow up on existing customers to identify new potential needs.
- Attend networking events and trade shows to build relationships and generate leads.
- Highly effective listener and able to pivot deftly to position the range of Jem products to different personas and client types.
- Deliver relevant marketing content to prospects.
- Generate and manage sales pipeline by updating all activity in CRM.
- Provide regular reports on sales activities and results to management.
<>Effectively manage customer feedback and communicate to relevant internal parties to contribute further towards continued growth.
Qualifications
- At least 1 year experience in SaaS, Tech or B2B sales.
- Ideally in HR, with our ICP.
- Strong track‑record of being able to find and generate new leads.
- Ideally has worked in a start‑up before and have at least some experience selling in a startup environment.
- Hungry for business.
- Commission driven.
- Used CRMs before, ideally Hubspot.
- Nice to have: Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, with exceptional time management.
- Nice to have: The drive to take initiative, work independently and be accountable while also working as a team player who is collaborative, positive and flexible.
- Nice to have: History of ability to develop authentic and long‑lasting executive relationships.
- Nice to have: Drive and determination with the ability to think clearly in a fast paced, startup environment.

- Nice to have: An energetic attitude with a 'can‑do' approach.
- Nice to have: Confident presentation skills, in person and remotely with the ability to confidently articulate credible messages to a very senior audience.
Process
- CV Application & Video: Submit your CV, answer some questions and record a short video answering a specific question so we can get to know you beyond your CV.
- Meet & Greet with Dani (People Lead): A 15‑minute meeting with Dani to ask you a few initial questions.
- Technical Assessment (Take‑Home): A short 48‑hour take‑home task designed to showcase your sales thinking and approach.
- Technical Interview: A 30‑minute conversation with Chris Hellmann, your potential manager.
- In‑Person Workshop: A collaborative session in our office (Cape Town or Johannesburg) with members of our team.
- Founder Interview: A 45‑minute session with Caroline van der Merwe, our co‑founder and COO, to explore team fit and culture alignment.
