Job summary

A health and safety consultancy located in Durban is seeking a qualified Safety Officer to ensure a safe and healthy work environment on construction sites. The successful candidate will develop safety plans, conduct inspections, and provide training. Applicants should possess a National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety and be registered with SACPCMP. Job description

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Safety Officer to join our team in Durban. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment on construction sites, and for implementing and enforcing safety policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety Planning: Develop and implement site-specific safety plans, including risk assessments and hazard identification.
  • Safety Inspections: Conduct regular safety inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Safety Training: Provide safety training and inductions to employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate incidents and accidents, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Safety Reporting: Prepare and submit safety reports, including incident reports, safety statistics, and compliance reports.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant safety legislation, regulations, and standards, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate and coordinate with stakeholders, including employees, contractors, clients, and regulatory authorities.
  • Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, as well as strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Requirements
  • Qualifications: National Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety (or relevant field)
  • Registration: Registered with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) as a Safety Officer
  • Experience: 2 years of experience in a safety officer role, preferably in the construction industry
Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of:
  • Occupational health and safety principles and practices
