Retail Financial Manager required in Newcastle.
An opportunity for an experienced Retail Financial Manager (Supermarket) is available for permanent employment based in Newcastle.
This role requires a strong, hands‑on financial leader with solid retail experience, strong integrity, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee full financial function of the supermarket, including General Ledger, cashbook, creditors, debtors, and reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, financial reports, and variance analysis.
- Analyse sales, GP margins, shrinkage, and stock losses, providing recommendations for improvement.
- Ensure accurate and timely capturing of financial data and operational costs.
- Budgeting & Cost Control
- Assist in annual budgets, forecasting, and long‑term financial planning.
- Monitor and control expenses, operating costs, and departmental expenditure.
- Implement cost‑saving initiatives without compromising operations.
- Retail Operational Finance
- Manage cash flow, banking processes, and daily financial controls.
- Oversee POS controls, daily cash‑ups, and ensure compliance with cash‑handling procedures.
- Support department managers with sales analysis, stock management, and stock take preparation.
- Ensure correct statutory compliance (VAT, PAYE, UIF, etc.).
- Leadership & Compliance
- Supervise and mentor finance/admin staff.
- Ensure adherence to all financial policies, audit requirements, and internal controls.
- Work closely with store management and ownership to ensure alignment with business goals.
- Support external audits and provide all required documentation.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working as a Financial Manager in a RETAIL environment (essential).
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting / Finance / Cost & Management Accounting (essential).
- Strong knowledge of retail POS systems, stock control, and financial processes.
- Advanced MS Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, reporting).
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., Pastel, Sage, Omni, or similar).
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational abilities.
- Newcastle residency (non‑negotiable).
- Willing and available to work retail hours, public holidays, weekends, and seasonal trade.
- Clean criminal record and traceable, contactable references (non‑negotiable).
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
