A consulting firm in infrastructure seeks a Resident Engineer in Mthatha to oversee road construction projects. The ideal candidate has a BSc in Engineering, extensive supervisory experience, and strong knowledge of contract management. This contract position lasts for 3 years and offers a market-related salary.
GIBBs Roads and Highways Services Delivery Unit provides a comprehensive range of services that include traditional consulting services (design procurement and contract supervision) Public Private Partnership (PPP) solutions and asset management services. This includes high-capacity freeways interchanges and bridges airport pavements rural roads (including low volume and haul roads) and municipal infrastructure. The team is supported by transportation and traffic engineers geotechnical and material engineers and other specialists.

The below listed responsibilities and requirements is assessed during the interview stages and will further be confirmed with the relevant professional references that you currently are or have reported to in your previously two positions.
Oversee and coordinate road construction activities on site ensuring work meets design specifications contract requirements and safety standards.
Monitor contractor progress and liaise closely with the Contracts Engineer Site Agent and service providers to resolve technical and operational issues.
Refer significant design or materials queries to the Design Engineer and ensure lessons learned are shared for future improvements.
Apply relevant clauses of the General Conditions of Contract to manage project compliance and administration.
Ensure adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety and Road Traffic Acts and monitor the contractors environmental management practices.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders including local communities via the Community Liaison Officer and coordinate the relocation of services where required.
Lead and document site and technical meetings maintain accurate site records and oversee on-site and off-site material testing.
Verify and certify payment certificates manage project costs and assist with variation orders and close-out documentation.
Inspect works for compliance instruct corrective measures when necessary and record all information relevant to project progress and claims.
