Overview

The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for managing the full costing, quoting, and bill of quantities (BOQ) process for turnkey retail shopfitting projects. This includes analysing client technical packs, preparing internal costings for fixtures, fittings, and shopfitting, obtaining and negotiating subcontractor quotations for all external trades, and compiling comprehensive client-ready BOQs and quotations. The role is critical in ensuring competitive, accurate, and timely submissions (3-day turnaround), enabling the business to deliver seamless turnkey solutions to clients in the retail sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Tender & Quote Preparation
    • Review and analyse client technical packs and project specifications.
    • Prepare cost estimates for in-house shopfitting and fixture manufacturing.
    • Issue RFQs (Requests for Quotation) to subcontractors across all trades (e.g., flooring, tiling/vinyl/wood, painting, lighting, electrical, AC, ceilings, signage, shopfronts, media, plumbing, wet works, partitioning, graphics).
    • Evaluate and compare subcontractor quotations, negotiating best possible pricing and terms.
    • Compile and populate client BOQs and detailed quotes within required timeframes.
  • Cost Control & Management
    • Ensure accuracy and competitiveness of all quotations while maintaining profitability.
    • Benchmark and update cost databases for materials, labor, and subcontractor rates.
    • Track changes in client requirements and assess cost implications.
  • Stakeholder & Supplier Coordination
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
    • Liaise closely with internal project management, manufacturing, and installation teams to align costings with operational requirements.
    • Provide ongoing support to project managers during project execution regarding budgets, variations, and cost controls.
  • Reporting & Compliance
    • Maintain detailed costing records for transparency and audit purposes.
    • Ensure compliance with company processes, industry standards, and client expectations.
    • Prepare post-quote analysis to improve accuracy and competitiveness in future bids.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree or Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Minimum 5+ years experience as a QS in the retail fit-out / shopfitting / building construction sector.
  • Proven track record in tendering, quoting, BOQ preparation, and subcontractor management.
  • Strong understanding of retail construction and fit-out processes.
