Purpose of this Role:

The purpose of the Roving Quality Inspector is to ensure the continuous accurate and efficient Inspection and Grading of products under minimal supervision.

To constantly track and monitor the quality of the products produced during an allocated shift and work with all personnel to take appropriate action when production is below quality specifications to ensure that Belgotex Customer Service, Volume and operational efficiencies are realized through efficient production, adherence to plan and high-quality output of manufactured product.

Key Accountabilities and Outputs:

• Correct quality grading of carpet/products on-line as per grading system. To ensure all products are correctly classified.
• Ensure correct labelling, check and confirm that ticket matches carpet design, colour and style.
• Check and ensure colour, design/ pattern of carpet matches the Master sample book.
• Perform weight checks and provide feedback thereof to the relevant department/people.
• Conduct width checks and moisture checks.
• Perform/monitor peel strength test.
• Perform minor repairs, colouring and chalking of material.
• Monitor knife lines and high tufts.
• Check colour continuity samples in departments.
• Monitor backing roll weights and widths.
• Ensure quality records are completed accurately and timeously.
• Track and monitor the quality of products ensuring product specifications and quality standards are adhered to.
• Identify defects and work with the operator/supervisor to implement solutions to remedy the defects/fault e.g. low twist at tufting.
• Verify specifications on all production dye lots in progress e.g. stitch, pile heights.
• Ensure primary backings used are correct.
• Attend quality meetings and relay critical information both to and from the meeting.
• Comply with applicable safety, health and environment legislation and audit requirements.
• Monitor quality of yarn in various departments Heatset, Twist, Air-entangling, Pattern-split.
• Monitor tiles manufactured in both Plain Back and Bitumen lines.
• Perform any other reasonable instructions given by Supervisor or Management.

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 / Matric with Maths is essential.
• At least 5 years’ experience in Production/Quality in the manufacturing textile/flooring industry.
• Good report writing skills.
• Good communication skills.
• Must not be colour blind.
• Must have good vision (to see the finer details in carpet manufacturing).
• Good knowledge of quality control standards, ISO 9001, 14001, 18001 is an advantage.
• Proficient in MS Office applications e.g. D365, ERP, Word, Excel, Power point / 5s.
• The incumbent requires significant technical knowledge and experience in production of yarns and carpet.
