Project Manager - Bulk Material Handling

We are seeking a Project Manager – Bulk Material Handling to join our Bulk Materials Handling Projects Team. This role is responsible for directly managing Class 1, 2, and 3 GBP Engineered to Order (E type) projects, covering a range of small to very large Refurbishment, Upgrades and Replacement projects. The Project Manager will oversee all phases from order intake to final delivery, ensuring scope, budget, schedule, and quality targets are met.

The successful candidate will collaborate with cross‑functional teams including Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Field Services, while engaging with customers and internal stakeholders to drive project success. A key focus of the role is to promote a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle.

This position reports to the Project & Proposals Manager.

Location: Cape Town, Gauteng

Team You Belong To

You will join the Capital Projects Team and work closely with internal and external stakeholders, such as Management, Sales Managers, Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Field Services, Clients, Suppliers, Sub‑Contractors, and Site Staff.

What You Will Do
  • Lead the execution of Class I, II, and complex Class III (POC) Engineered‑to‑Order (ETO) projects, including internal initiatives such as standard part warranty cases and critical shutdown or breakdown projects.
  • Ensure successful project delivery by meeting customer expectations and contractual commitments across safety, quality, schedule, and budget targets.
  • Apply and uphold Metso’s established processes, tools, and policies throughout all phases of project execution.
  • Implement and maintain rigorous scope change management practices to ensure controlled and transparent project delivery.
  • Provide expert financial forecasting and oversight, including managing STECO activities for Class II projects.
  • Oversee comprehensive project coordination, including issue resolution, progress tracking, and budget and schedule control.
  • Support Market Area handover processes, warranty resolution, and installed base activities following project completion.
  • Mentor and guide PM I, II, and III colleagues, actively contributing to team development and process improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a Key User for the PCM process in SAP, ensuring system integrity and process alignment.
  • Drive risk management practices by identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks throughout the lifecycle.
  • Lead project review meetings and reporting, ensuring transparency and alignment with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams during the proposal and handover phases to ensure smooth project initiation.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and contributing to the development of best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards during project execution.
  • Represent the company in customer meetings, site visits, and project reviews, acting as the primary point of contact for project‑related matters.

  • Expert knowledge and experience of GBP product portfolio.
  • Ability to multitask under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent working knowledge of PCM process in SAP
  • PMP Certification and/or extensive PM experience essential.
