Job summary

A leading project management firm is seeking a qualified engineer with over 5 years of experience in the coal mining or construction industry. The successful candidate will manage comprehensive project duties including planning, technical support, and stakeholder management while ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgets. In-depth knowledge of engineering contracts and relevant mining legislation is essential. This role is crucial for the successful execution of engineering infrastructure projects in the mining sector, based in Mpumalanga, South Africa.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years in coal mining, industrial or construction industry.
  • Ability to manage internal and external stakeholders to deliver favorable outcomes.
  • Understanding of relevant safety and mining legislation including: The Mine Health and Safety Act and Minerals and Energy Act.

Job description

Location: JHB/Witbank

Job Type: 12 month contract, expected to work Full-Time hours

Job Duties:
  • Proven work experience in a project environment.
  • Background in the mining industry (run‑of‑mine crushing/sizing/screening, beneficiation plants, contract mining set‑up) is highly desirable, with exposure to plant and equipment layouts.
  • Co‑ordinate all aspects of planning and design, feasibility studies, risk analysis, optimisation, design, scheduling and contractor/supplier selection justification.
  • Self‑motivated and self‑driven is preferable.
  • Provide technical support to ensure the successful completion of the feasibility study and the detailed engineering design phase.
  • Co‑ordinate or assist with the coordination of all project execution activities related to the delivery of engineering infrastructure that will support the contract miner and development of the greenfield mine.
  • Ensure project expectations are met, schedules maintained and budgets adhered to.
  • Source, appoint and manage engineering contractors.
  • Liaise regularly with engineering design consultants and plant design contractors including leading project engineering kick‑off and progress meetings.
  • Manage and plan design activities to ensure timely completion and coordination within the design team throughout all phases.
  • Conduct project alignment meetings between the relevant stakeholders of the project.
  • Work with project planners and schedulers to understand timelines and ensure progress reports are accurate and meet required standards before release to steercom.
  • Collaborate with the design and drafting department of the design consultants to establish required deliverables; check designs and drawings for alignment with agreed engineering design criteria, mine standards and specifications.
  • Ensure equipment designs comply with project requirements and expectations.
  • Manage the overall Project Blockplan. Ensure that it’s updated timely and approved by relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain continuous alignment of engineering project scope with mine business objectives and make recommendations to modify the project to enhance effectiveness in achieving business results or strategic intent.
  • Manage the compilation and integration of the Engineering Study reports including study work plans and project execution plans at the end of the feasibility study.
  • Responsible for quality of engineering deliverables.
Required Qualifications:
