Our mining client in the Northern Cape is looking for a Plant Metallurgist who will be responsible for monitoring and improving metallurgical processes within the plant to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and safe production. This role will contribute to production optimization, continuous improvement initiatives, and research and development, while ensuring compliance with SHERQ standards and legal regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and monitor production process performance and identify areas for optimization.
  • Conduct process simulations and test work to support plant improvements and modifications.
  • Lead and contribute to Research and Development (R&D) projects to enhance processing efficiency.
  • Drive and participate in continuous improvement projects, focused on safety, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Ensure adherence to SHERQ standards and contribute to a culture of safety, health, environment, risk, and quality compliance.
  • Maintain a high level of work ethics and foster a team-oriented work environment.
Qualifications and Experience
  • National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Metallurgy (required).
  • BTech Degree / Bachelor's Degree (NQF Level 7) in Metallurgy (advantageous).
  • Minimum 5 years operational experience in Mineral Processing.
  • Minimum 1 year in a supervisory, team leader, or project leadership role (advantageous).
  • Minimum 2 years experience with Gravity Separation Technology (advantageous).
  • Valid Drivers' License.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

Technical Knowledge
  • Crushing, screening, conveying, stacking, and reclaiming.
  • Gravity separation (jigging), cyclones, thickeners, tailings disposal.
  • Sampling, dust suppression, on‑line analyzers.
Interpretation of process flow and instrumentation diagrams related to:
  • Bruce Primary & Secondary Crushing.
  • Overland Conveyor & ROM Stacking.
  • On‑Grade and Off‑Grade Wash and Screening.
  • Beneficiation and High‑Pressure Roller Crushing.
  • Product Conveying, Water & Slime Handling, and Automated Control Systems.
  • Maintenance Management Systems.
Diagnostic & Analytical Skills
  • Root Cause Analysis.
  • Problem Solving.
  • Trend Analysis & Report Writing.
Systems Knowledge
  • MS Office (Advanced).
  • JDE, MES, Scada systems.
  • Risk Assessments and Permit to Work systems.
Legal & Compliance Knowledge
  • Mine Health and Safety Act.
  • SAQA Regulations.
  • Company COPs and SHERQ procedures.
  • First Aid Certification (advantageous).
