Job Description
To provide coordination in the implementation and execution of the operational risk management process at mining and process operations and reporting on these activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of the ORM with specific focus on Baseline and Issue- based risk management activities.
- Oversee effective execution of the four ORM layers of risk management at the operation:
- Baseline Risk Management
- Issue‑based risk management
- Task risk management
- Continuous risk management
- Co‑ordinate ORM execution in line with the integrated risk management processes, systems, standards, and procedures.
- Support implementation, adoption, and sustainability of the ORM digital platform.
- Assist in delivering the annual ORM programme, ensuring alignment with operational targets and key results.
- Conduct monthly assessments of operational risk performance and prepare status reports for Senior Leadership Teams (SLT) and operational risk role‑holders.
- Support action planning to address deviations or emerging risk concerns.
Capability Building & Stakeholder Support
- Strengthen operational and contractor capability through planned ORM training, coaching, and formal capacity‑building programmes.
- Provide risk‑based advisory input to enhance integration of ORM into operational practices, including:
- Operational Model
- Learning and incident investigation
- Assurance activities
- Critical control verification
Technical Contribution
- Provide specialist insight to support the management of material risks and improve leading practices across mining, processing, engineering, and related functions.
The successful candidate will report to Section Manager: Operational Risk
Qualifications
- National Diploma (Risk Management, SHE, Sciences, Engineering, or related field) or equivalent qualification.
Advantageous
- Training in ISO Management Systems (ISO 9001, 14001, 18001)
- Auditing or risk qualifications
- Health and Safety Management training
Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in mining operations with strong understanding of mining processes and operational challenges.
- Demonstrated ability to translate ORM principles into practical applications in mining, processing, and engineering contexts.
- Experience in risk management within a technical, operational, or assurance environment.
- Knowledge and application of tools such as Bow‑Tie, HAZOP, and other industry‑standard methodologies.
- Experience using, SHE and IRM digital platforms, and coordinating critical control verification audits.
- Proven ability to influence and collaborate across all organisational levels.
- Sound understanding of the PGM value chain and SHE trends.

- Understanding of legislative developments, including tailings management
Commercial
- Business acumen and understanding of site performance drivers
- Basic financial metrics, cost and value management, and budgeting principles

- Risk management techniques and critical control methodologies
- Value chain drivers and interdependencies
- Leadership tools for high‑performance and change management
Compliance
- Knowledge of safety, health, environmental, statutory, regulatory, and permitting requirements
