Job summary

A leading mining company in South Africa is seeking to fill a key position focused on managing the Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene department. The ideal candidate will possess a Minerals Council Mine Environmental Control Certificate and significant experience in ventilation systems. Responsibilities include leading a team, analyzing ventilation data, and ensuring compliance with health standards. Qualifications

  • At least 5 years’ experience in leading the Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene department.
  • Medical Certificate of Fitness required.
  • Fluency in English is essential.
  • Code 8 Driver’s license mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Develop relationships with external suppliers and forums.
  • Manage a team of Occupational Hygienists and ventilation specialists.
  • Analyze and interpret ventilation data for mining operations.
  • Develop ventilation design criteria to ensure safe operations.
  • Create standard operating procedures for ventilation.

Job description
Minimum requirements, Experience and Knowledge
  • Minerals Council Mine Environmental Control Certificate (CMEC).
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Management / Management Development Programme
  • Experience in the design and optimization of complex ventilation and refrigeration systems on a deep-level mine.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in heading up the Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene department on a shaft.
Other requirements
  • Medical Certificate of Fitness
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Computer Literacy
  • Fluency in both verbal and written English is essential
  • Code 8 Driver’s license

Roles and responsibilities
  • Develop and manage relationships with the appropriate external suppliers and forums.
  • Manage a team of Occupational Hygienist as well as ventilation and cooling specialist by providing strategic and operational direction.
  • Capable of analyzing and interpreting ventilation data and the requisite ventilation methods for different stoping techniques.
  • Capable of analyzing and interpreting data on environmental stressors.
  • Capable of developing ventilation design criteria to support safe and optimal mine operations.
  • Capable of developing ventilation standard operating procedures.
  • A high level of computer literacy with specialized ventilation software such as VUMA.
  • Strong technical, leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and report-writing skills.
  • Engage with business unit heads and EXCO to advise them on the OH requirements within their respective divisions and ensure that they are appropriately aligned to the OH compliance standards as set out by the regulator.
