Requirements
  • A Certificate in Medical Technician that allows registration with the HPCSA as Medical Technician in the category Histopathology Technique.
  • Experience in Forensic or Anatomical Histopathology laboratory: Grade 1 no experience post qualification. Grade 2 five (5) years’ experience post qualification.
  • Current registration with the HPCSA.
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Ability and willingness to work within groups and be involved in team activities.
  • Good Communication skills (Written and Verbal) Interpersonal Skills.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Valid driver\'s license (Optional).
Duties
  • Receive samples as per standard operating procedures; log relevant data whilst maintaining chain of custody. Perform sample analysis e.g. Put through, Processing; Embedding; Microtomy, frozen sections and Staining including Special Stains.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure all quality assurance procedures are maintained to ensure production of valid results.
  • Make up all relevant reagents; perform stock maintenance.
  • Be involved in document control and student training.
  • Perform filing. Archival and retrieval of sample material and documents.
  • Observe Health and Safety Regulations.
