Mechanical Project Manager - Independent Power Projects (IPP)

Location: Cape Town

Client: A Leading Firm in the Renewable Energy Sector

General Description:

The Project Manager - IPP is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of renewable energy projects from inception through to completion. This role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with all regulatory and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, execution, and closing of renewable energy projects, particularly focusing on solar, wind, and other sustainable technologies.
  • Manage all project phases, including feasibility studies, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, external contractors, and consultants to achieve project milestones.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, schedules, and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations, as well as environmental and health and safety standards.
  • Handle stakeholder engagement, ensuring transparent communication between all parties involved, including government entities, local communities, and investment partners.
  • Monitor and report on project progress to senior management and clients, providing detailed updates and strategic recommendations.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle.

Educational Qualifications:

  • a Mechanical engineering degree or deploma
  • Certification in Project Management (PMP or equivalent) is highly desirable.

Experience Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in project management within the renewable energy sector, specifically with IPPs.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale energy projects from concept to completion.
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams and managing complex stakeholder relationships.
