A dynamic engineering consultancy in Cape Town is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineering Technician specializing in HVAC draughting to support various projects. The ideal candidate will develop HVAC drawings, assist in design calculations, and ensure compliance with industry standards. A degree in Mechanical Engineering and proficiency in AutoCAD are essential, along with strong attention to detail. This role offers a competitive salary of R20k to R25k per month, with the option to work part-time from home.
FRAME Engineering Consultants provide innovative and efficient Mechanical Building Services solutions across the Domestic, Commercial and Industrial sectors. We pride ourselves on technical excellence, precision in design, and delivering engineering solutions that meet the highest standards of quality and compliance. We are expanding our mechanical services team and seek a skilled Mechanical Engineering Technician with strong HVAC draughting capabilities to support our growing portfolio of building projects. You will be responsible for producing high-quality HVAC drawings, models and technical documentation under the guidance of senior engineers.
Develop detailed HVAC layout drawings, schematics, sections and plant room layouts. Create coordinated CAD / Revit / BIM models in line with project requirements. Assist engineers with basic HVAC design calculations: airflow, duct sizing, pipe sizing and equipment selections. Prepare equipment schedules, datasheets and project documentation. Ensure all drawings comply with FRAME standards, SANS codes and industry best practice. Coordinate mechanical layouts with architectural, structural and electrical services to avoid clashes. Revise drawings based on design updates, site instructions and engineering feedback. Support site teams with as-built drawings, technical queries and installation clarification. Maintain disciplined drawing control and revision management.
Degree, National Diploma, N6, or similar Technicon qualification in Mechanical Engineering. Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit MEP experience is an advantage. Good understanding of HVAC system fundamentals and mechanical services layouts. Ability to read and interpret multidisciplinary construction drawings. Strong attention to detail and technical accuracy.
Exposure to HAP, Elite or similar load / capacity calculation software. Knowledge of VRF, DX, chilled water, ventilation, smoke extraction and industrial systems. Familiarity with SANS, SANS, SANS and other mechanical service standards.
Methodical, detail-focused and committed to quality work. Good communication and coordination skills. Ability to work independently and manage deadlines. Growth mindset with interest in developing further HVAC design knowledge.
