Company Description

SGS Matrolab is seeking to fulfill key roles as Civil Engineering Site Laboratory Managers. The role requires the incumbent to manage a site laboratory, overseeing all laboratory-related tasks and on-site laboratory operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of our quality systems to ensure smooth laboratory functions, excellent service quality, manpower efficiency, and profitability. Responsibilities include regular cleaning and maintenance of equipment, conducting materials testing across all laboratory divisions (soils, asphalt, seals, concrete, aggregates), and performing bench calculations as needed. The Laboratory Manager will ensure the laboratory remains clean and will carry out work-related instructions from authorized personnel.

They should have a proven track record of delivering performance against strategic objectives, ensuring all quality and testing methods are followed, and deviations are promptly reported.

Job Description

1. Responsible for laboratory management, production planning on site, and meeting deadlines.
2. Liaise with clients and relevant regional managers.
3. Ensure reporting accuracy before signing and distribution.
4. Implement quality control systems and adhere to health and safety regulations.
5. Manage multi-disciplinary site laboratories, including soils, concrete, asphalt, seals, and aggregates.
6. Follow all SGS policies and procedures, including payroll, leave, and disciplinary procedures.
7. Provide training based on identified needs.
8. Ensure completion of all mandatory SGS training.
9. Submit timesheets, claim forms, and payroll instructions timely.
10. Assist technicians on site or in the laboratory as instructed.
11. Perform any other tasks assigned by supervisors or regional managers.

Qualifications

Education: Relevant national diploma or Grade 12.
Experience: Driver's license, relevant diploma, and at least five years of relevant experience in a civil materials testing laboratory.

Competencies

• Qualified to perform all tests (TMH 1 and SANS) across all laboratory divisions.
• Capable of implementing quality control systems.
• Supervise and execute all fieldwork.
• Familiar with COLTO & SANAS standards.
• Knowledge of health and safety protocols.
