Job Description

The Manager Technical Mining will lead the operational Mining Technical team to deliver safe, productive services and support, in line with agreed plans, in order to optimise the value of the mine resource.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure consolidation, alignment, and integration of discipline inputs into site 5-year plan and provide key technical input on production strategy, resource optimisation, maintenance plans, shutdown plans, risk management plans, mine design and equipment performance.
  • Ensure development of technical mine designs to support operational planning across disciplines.
  • Review past performance to inform planning inputs and define root cause analyses to investigate key areas as needed.
  • Align with GM and Corporate Mining Technical function on planned and existing business improvement projects & opportunities.
  • Ensure sufficient physical resources are available on site to deliver an integrated operational plan.
  • Put systems in place to ensure safe and sustainable execution of technical, planning and business improvement activities on site.
  • Monitor and ensure on-site execution and delivery against technical plans and quality requirements.
  • Undertake reconciliations across technical & operational processes to identify opportunities for improvements.
  • Proactively identify technical challenges and opportunities that new technology could address.
  • Embed new technologies into the on-site technical work once solution design is execution-ready.
  • Implement a purpose-driven, high-performing culture that is aligned with the company values, is inclusive and promotes diversity, supports engagement and fosters continuous improvement to work processes.
  • Develop required compliance governance for the discipline on an operational level.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory, legislative and permitting requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline (preferably Mining Engineering)
  • Registered with Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) - desirable
Experience
  • Minimum of 8 years relevant mining experience.
Technical knowledge required for role:
  • Extensive experience in Narrow Tabular ore bodies /conventional underground Mining Advantageous
  • Extensive experience in underground massive mining methods advantageous
  • Mine design knowledge of primary development.
  • Full appreciation for theory of constraints thinking for conventional mining – buffers and bottlenecks.
  • Proficient in technical mining disciplines: Geology, Survey, Rock Engineering, Mining, Mine Planning, Ventilation
  • Advanced skills in conventional mining methods
Additional Requirements
  • Valid EB/Code 08 driver’s licence (Ad hoc requirement need to travel)
  • Medical certificate of fitness
