ABOUT WESSELS

The South Africa Manganese operation can be found in the manganese‑rich Kalahari Basin, in the country’s Northern Cape, which is home to 80 per cent of the world’s manganese. This position is based at our Wessels Mine which represents one of the largest manganese reserves in South Africa.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role is a permanent full‑time position.

Manager Production, you will be responsible for managing the Mining Department in order to meet business objectives. This is a legal appointment as per Section 3.1.(a) of the MHSA and this role will be reporting to the general manager.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

• Lead Health, Safety, Environment and Community within the internal environment;
• Conduct investigations into workplace incidents;
• Ensure compliance with Legal and South32 requirements;
• Run the business safely and productively;
• Ensure effective task analyses processes are established and reviewed for effectiveness;
• Ensure controls are in place to mitigate material risks;
• Develop and implement strategies and action plans for the Mining Department;
• Integrate the Life Off Asset plan into the Medium‑Term Plan (5 yr. and 2 yr. budget);
• Participate in the estimation and preparation of cost budget for a project or sub project and monitor and control actual cost against budget;
• Conduct regular Results and Progress Management (RPM's) meetings as per schedule;
• Build and maintain a competent and motivated work force;
• Monitor and evaluate team members against performance standards;
• Manage conflicts within the workplace;
• Resolve grievances and disputes;
• Driving culture upliftment through the LSED tool rollout to the frontline;
• Effective collaboration with other HOD’s to drive the strategic objectives of the company (HMM Vision and strategy rollout);
• Mentor individuals to enhance the individual’s knowledge, skills, values and attitudes in a selected career path.

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Must have a minimum of 5 Years in management role of underground mine and at least 10 years in mining industry.

Qualifications for this role are:

• Degree/BTECH/National Diploma in Mining together with Mine Managers Certificate of Competency (DMRE) for Metalliferous Mines Broad;
• Leadership or Financial qualification is advantageous;
• Masters in engineering Qualifications is advantageous.
