Job summary

A leading recruitment agency is seeking a Maintenance Manager for a food production facility in Midrand, South Africa. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of refrigeration experience and more than 3 years in management within the food industry. Responsibilities include performing maintenance, supervising staff, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. This role requires strong electrical and mechanical knowledge along with a Matric and N3 certification.

Job description

Perform general maintenance on factory, machinery, and building (interior/exterior).

Maintain mechanical and electrical equipment according to checklists and SOPs.

Implement and manage preventative maintenance plans.

Monitor fuel levels and coordinate with contractors for after-hours/weekend support.

Respond to breakdowns, perform root cause analysis, and ensure timely resolution.

Communicate major breakdowns and action plans to management.

Lead and supervise a team of maintenance staff and refrigeration technician.

Allocate shifts, manage performance, and provide on-the-job training.

Process and schedule all maintenance job requests, inspections, and hygiene checks.

Order parts/tools, manage inventory, and control maintenance budget and Capex planning.

Conduct monthly stock counts in maintenance storeroom and maintain the system.

Source, manage, and ensure compliance of external contractors on-site.

Monitor and maintain all production machinery for functionality and hygiene.

Support production team, including contractors weekend and Sunday operations.

Enforce Health & Safety compliance, PPE use, incident reporting, and emergency readiness.

Qualifications & Experience

3+ years in food industry, management, and maintenance

5+ years in refrigeration

Strong electrical and mechanical knowledge

Matric with N3 Electrical & Mechanical

ISO 22000 / food safety knowledge

ND/BTech/BEng (advantageous)

GCC (in progress or completed) is an advantage
