Job summary

A prominent law firm in Brits is looking for an experienced Legal Secretary to join its team. The ideal candidate must be fully proficient in Afrikaans and English, possess excellent typing skills, and have a solid background in collections and debtor-related matters. Responsibilities include drafting legal documents, managing debtor files, and maintaining filing systems. Location: Brits, North West

A well-established law firm in Brits is seeking an experienced Legal Secretary with strong Afrikaans proficiency and solid knowledge of collections and debtor-related matters. The ideal candidate must be highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced legal environment.

Key Requirements
  • Fully proficient in Afrikaans and English (spoken and written) – Afrikaans essential
  • Excellent typing skills with high accuracy and speed
  • Proven experience as a Legal Secretary, preferably within a collections / debtors department
  • Sound knowledge of collections processes, including debtor follow-ups and legal recovery procedures
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple files simultaneously
  • Professional communication skills when dealing with clients, debtors, and attorneys
Key Responsibilities
  • Drafting, typing, and formatting legal documents, correspondence, and notices
  • Managing debtor files and assisting attorneys with collections and debt recovery matters
  • Following up on outstanding accounts and liaising with debtors professionally
  • Maintaining accurate records and filing systems (physical and electronic)
  • Handling telephone and email correspondence with clients, debtors, and third parties
  • Assisting with court documents and deadlines where applicable
  • General legal secretarial and administrative duties
Qualifications & Experience
  • Matric (Grade 12) required
  • Legal secretarial qualification will be an advantage
  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in a legal environment, preferably in collections
