Qualifications

  • Valid field-guiding qualification in Tourism or Hospitality.

This Bush Hideout located in the Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve is seeking a professional Field Guide to deliver exceptional guest experiences through guided activities, nature interpretation, and warm hospitality. The guide will represent the lodge on game drives, bush/forest walks and guest interactions ensuring safety, education, and memorable nature experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct guided game drives, bush walks and forest-based experiences.
  • Provide informative and engaging commentary on wildlife, ecology, birds and the natural environment.
  • Ensure guest safety and comfort at all times following reserve and lodge protocols.
  • Perform pre‑activity checks on vehicles, equipment and safety gear.
  • Assist with guest hosting and lodge operations when required (arrivals, meals, events).
  • Liaise with lodge management to coordinate activity schedules and guest needs.
  • Maintain high service standards, professionalism and a strong conservation ethos.
Requirements
  • 6–12 months of previous experience as a Field Guide in a lodge or game‑reserve environment.
  • Recognised guiding qualification.
  • Valid driver’s licence; PDP preferred.
  • Valid First Aid certificate.
  • Strong knowledge of wildlife, birdlife and environmental interpretation.
  • Excellent communication skills, guest‑service orientation and a warm personality.
  • Physically fit, safety‑conscious and able to work outdoors for long hours.
  • Team‑player with flexibility to assist across lodge operations where needed.
  • Valid field‑guiding qualification in Tourism or Hospitality or work experience in a similar environment.
  • Strong verifiable references.
