Job summary

A leading recycling company in Kempton Park is seeking an experienced electrician with a minimum of 10 years in commercial and industrial work. Responsibilities include servicing electrical machinery, troubleshooting faults, and prioritizing repairs. The role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work flexible hours. Candidates must reside locally in the East Rand Area and have a relevant Trade Certificate in electricity.

Job description

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Experience in working within industrial environment with industrial machines a must.
2. Prioritize in conjunction with the production supervisor all breakdowns and effect repairs as requested by job card or as per verbal request depending on the urgency of the job.
3. Prioritize in conjunction with production supervisor all malfunctioning of the electrics and attend to these as requested by job cards or as per verbal request depending on the urgency.
4. Service the electrical components of machines and other equipment as per the planned maintenance schedule.
5. Check sub-station, transformers, and machines daily for faults. Prioritize these faults in conjunction with superintendent and effect the repairs as per the priority listing. (Could mean stopping machines immediately to work on or repairs effected over the weekend)
6. Constructing new or modifying existing circuitry on equipment as requested by the engineering manager.
7. Calibrate machine temperature controllers when requested by production supervisor.
8. Electrically isolate equipment so that work can be carried out on the equipment.
9. Attend to mechanical problems as requested by Engineering Manager.
10. Advice production staff of the functions and the efficient operation of all apparatus.
11. Repair and replace batch-off bar as and when required.
12. Priorities in conjunction with foreman all breakdowns and affiant repairs as requested by Job cards or as per verbal request depending on urgency of the job.
13. Service all machinery as per the planned maintenance schedule.
14. Check and service extraction unit.
15. To ensure housekeeping is maintained at a high level.
16. Repairs switches, starters, variable frequency drives (VSDs), soft starts, computerized process controllers and facility/structure lighting systems.
17. Operates various specialized gauges and tools, i.e., voltmeters, amp meters, ohmmeters, circuit tracers, rotation meters, soldering irons, welders, drills and saws, data loggers and infrared thermal imaging camera
18. Refers to electrical diagrams or schematics, technical manuals, parts manuals, established codes and procedural references for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and code compliance in task performance.
19. May be asked to perform other duties in the department when required.

Key working relationships

This position will work under the supervision of line management but will also be expected to work under their own initiative. This position requires excellent communication skills and maintenance of relationships with all department within the organization, customers, and visitors.

Qualifications

Matric/NQF Level 3

Be in possession of an appropriate Trade Certificate with reference to electricity.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum of 10 Years’ Electrician Experience in commercial & Industrial work

Ability to work outside normal working hours (shift work and stand by)

Required to work overtime when required due to breakdowns and planned maintenance.

Reside locally in East Rand Area
