Introduction

A well-established national organisation in the sales and merchandising sector is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and resilient HR Manager to lead the full HR and IR function for a large, fast-paced workforce. This role requires strong leadership ability, advanced IR competency, and the ability to operate confidently in a high-pressure environment while supporting operational teams across all regions.

The HR Manager is responsible for overseeing and executing the full scope of HR and IR activities, ensuring legislative compliance, driving HR strategy, and supporting both management and employees nationwide. The role includes leading a small HR team and delivering consistent, quality HR support across the national footprint.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

1. HR Leadership & Management
  • Lead and supervise a national HR team (2 direct reports).
  • Oversee end-to-end HR operations for 2 000+ employees.
  • Develop, update, and implement HR policies and procedures.
  • Drive HR projects and initiatives aligned to operational needs.
2. Industrial Relations (IR)
  • Manage complex IR matters across multiple provinces.
  • Lead disciplinary processes, consultations, and hearings.
  • Represent the organisation at the CCMA when required.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant labour legislation (BCEA, LRA, EEA, OHSA).
3. Recruitment & Talent Management
  • Oversee high-volume recruitment processes.
  • Implement retention, succession, and talent development strategies.
  • Support ongoing training and development programmes.
4. HR Administration & Compliance
  • Ensure accurate contracts, documentation, and HR records.
  • Manage HR audits and maintain legislative compliance.
  • Oversee attendance, leave, and performance management systems.
5. Employee Engagement & Culture
  • Promote positive morale and employee relations.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and support to line managers.
  • Facilitate HR communication across the national workforce.
