Requirements

Financial
  • Responsible for the end-to-end process of developing, managing, maintaining and packaging products in a manner that enables the business units to appropriately provide these products and solutions to customers and achieve targets.
  • Accountable and responsible for identifying, quantifying, and highlighting any significant issues and growing trends that have implications for the profitability of products.
  • Manage and track profitability and the delivery of the key drivers, balance sheet and profitability targets.
  • Co-responsibility for target achievement of product measured as: (i) product income line items vs. budget; (ii) product costs line items vs. budget; (iii) Asset and deposit growth vs. budget.
  • Assessed against reduction in input costs and efficiencies achieved in product development / enhancement to improve margins.
  • Assessed against the shared achievement of desired product targets in terms of liquidity volumes, transaction volumes, etc.
People Management
  • A quantitative and qualitative assessment of the effective management of individuals and total team in delivering against targets, realizing the Bank’s desired culture and people values and in developing and growing talent.
  • Employment equity targets achieved.
CVP development and implementation
  • Build and develop a robust understanding of the customer, the customer value proposition, and competitors.
  • Work closely with business units to develop best in class product strategy that is customer-centric and focused on growth of client base and achievement of budgeted targets aligned to the segment strategy. This should cover full life cycle of the product and delivery across the value chain.
  • Drive the development of compelling product propositions through direct and indirect teams.
  • Success is assessed against the creation and successful implementation (time, budget, features, and effectiveness) of the agreed product strategy and development roadmap.
  • Define measurement in order to continually understand and improve on profitability, product customer service, product functioning and delivery.
  • Identify new business & revenue opportunities for products.
  • Research and review competitive offerings within similar segments and markets to optimise best in class products, with ideal pricing and customer advantage.
Operational product management
  • Define, implement, and deliver good product management understanding, processes and practices which includes :
  • Product features and functionality
  • Pricing and margin management
  • Balance sheet optimisation
  • Value driver lever analysis and balancing interdependencies
  • Understand and manage the product value chain role and product delivery within the value chain, etc.
  • Assessed against the effectiveness of pricing, measured as a review of the efficiency of pricing management and controls including control of leakage, management of operational pricing matters and requests and management of the annual pricing review.
  • Assessed against the operational management of products, partners, and vendors to ensure the smooth delivery of product to the business units, including interactions with internal partners.
  • Analyse product and associated regulatory risk and work with the risk, compliance and business functions to react quickly and implement mitigation plans and changes to comply with regulations.
  • Ensure that product health matrix is at the satisfactory level
People Management
  • Management of all business resources directly and indirectly involved in the operational management of product and pricing. Strong partnering skills to indirectly manage outputs from peers, colleagues and business partners in support of product and pricing.
  • Enhancing the corporate and leadership culture of the Bank through leading in line with the Bank’s values and culture.
  • Taking direct responsibility for fostering the growth of Access Bank talent by developing the staff under direct and indirect control through challenging Product development and implementation. Build and develop a robust understanding of the customer, the customer value proposition, and competitors.

Academic Knowledge
  • Minimum of a 3-year tertiary education, ideally a commerce, banking or related degree.
Work Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years banking experience.
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years banking experience at a management level in a combination of all or some of the following banking disciplines: product development, payments, retail banking, pricing, channel management, financial management, etc. Experience in the development of product strategies in developing organisations or smaller Banks would be an advantage. Development of alternative products, value added services and fintech solutions would be an advantage.
