Job Purpose
To participate in Pick n Pay's accredited Workplace Learnership Programme, combining structured learning with practical, on-the-job experience to gain occupational skills, workplace exposure, and a national qualification. The Learner contributes to daily store operations while completing theoretical and practical modules under the supervision of qualified mentors and managers.

Learning and Development Participation
- Attend and complete all scheduled theoretical training modules as part of the learnership programme.
- Participate actively in classroom and workplace learning activities.
- Demonstrate understanding of core learning areas relevant to the qualification.
- Complete all assignments, portfolios of evidence (POE), and assessments on time.
- Apply feedback from facilitators, assessors, and mentors to improve performance.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude towards learning and development.
Workplace Application and Skills Practice
- Perform designated workplace duties under supervision in accordance with the assigned department.
- Apply theoretical knowledge in practical, day-to-day store tasks.
- Assist in daily operations such as customer service, merchandising, stock control, hygiene, and product handling.
- Follow all Pick n Pay operational standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and service guidelines.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop new competencies in the workplace.
Customer Service and Store Support
- Greet and assist customers politely and professionally.
- Support team members to ensure shelves, counters, or service areas are well maintained.
- Uphold Pick n Pay's standards for quality, service, and cleanliness.
- Follow instructions from supervisors to meet customer and store requirements.
- Handle customer interactions with respect and courtesy, referring queries to senior staff where needed.
Compliance and Safety Awareness
- Comply with Occupational Health and Safety Act (85 of ...), Food Safety, and Hygiene Regulations.
- Follow Pick n Pay's policies regarding PPE, safety, and workplace conduct.
- Report any unsafe conditions, hazards, or incidents immediately.
- Ensure personal hygiene and grooming meet company standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
- Protect company property and maintain confidentiality of information.
Teamwork, Attendance, and Conduct
- Work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, and trainers.
- Demonstrate respect, punctuality, and reliability at all times.

- Adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of ... and Pick n Pay's internal safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean, hazard‑free workspace.
- Use appropriate PPE as required for each department.
- Report all safety incidents, near‑misses, and hazards immediately.
- Participate in health and safety induction and refresher training.
- Ensure compliance with hygiene and food safety practices (where applicable).
Requirements
- Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 qualification (minimum education requirement)
- South African citizen with a valid ID document
- Unemployed at the time of learnership appointment
- Must be between years old (as per SETA criteria)
- Eligibility and Background:
- No conflict of interest with the employer or anyone in a position of authority
- Must not have been employed as a domestic worker previously in this placement
- Communication and Fit:
- Ability to communicate in English and follow instructions
- Physically fit to perform retail operational tasks
- Willing to work flexible hours, weekends, and public holidays as per training schedule
