Job Summary

The Managing Director / General Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership to drive business growth and operational excellence within the HVAC sector. The ideal candidate will bring strong industry knowledge, technical understanding of HVAC systems, and experience leading high-performing teams. This role will oversee all business functions including service delivery, engineering, project management, finance, HR, and client relationships to ensure the business remains competitive, compliant, and profitable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement business strategies that position the company for sustainable growth in the HVAC market.
  • Analyze market trends and client needs to guide product and service development.
  • Provide strategic input to the board and lead cross-functional teams toward shared goals.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations across service, maintenance, installations, and projects.
  • Ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of HVAC solutions to clients.
  • Improve operational efficiency by implementing industry best practices, quality standards, and automation where appropriate.
  • Prepare and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and project profitability reports.
  • Ensure healthy cash flow, cost control, and margin optimization on HVAC contracts and service agreements.
  • Lead efforts to secure new business, tenders, and long-term maintenance contracts.
  • Review and approve high-value project plans, resource allocation, and timelines.
  • Ensure all technical and safety standards are met and aligned with industry regulations (e.g., SANS standards, OHS Act).
  • Oversee after-sales service quality and warranty compliance.
  • Build and lead a skilled management team, including technicians, project managers, estimators, and support staff.
  • Foster a safety-conscious and client-focused work environment.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with key clients, suppliers, consultants, and industry bodies.
  • Represent the company at industry events and in negotiations with clients and regulatory authorities.
  • Ensure a consistent and professional client experience.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, HVAC industry regulations, environmental standards, and building codes.
  • Maintain strong corporate governance, including reporting, risk management, and audits
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, Business Management, or a related field (MBA or Project Management Certification advantageous).
  • Minimum of 7–10 years in a senior leadership role in the HVAC, building services, or facilities management sectors.
  • Proven track record in project delivery, operational leadership, and financial performance in HVAC.
  • Solid understanding of HVAC systems, refrigeration, building automation, and technical standards.
