Job Summary

The role holder will be responsible for proactively managing and monitoring fraud risk within Absa Bank Seychelles. The role involves managing fraud controls both manual (fraud sampling, exception reports, spot checks etc.) and system-based monitoring and detection for all fraud related activities. The role holder will also provide expertise and intelligence on fraud prevention, related risk management and controls; liaise and work with law enforcement agencies, professionals and commercial organizations in this field of expertise; and develop fraud training and awareness program. Support with the development and execution of the Fraud strategy as set in-country.

Job Description

Accountability: Fraud Risk Management and Monitoring 90%

  • Provide leadership to the Frauds team (Acquiring Fraud Monitoring, Cards Fraud Monitoring, Issuing & Acquiring Chargebacks, Transaction, Application and E-Channels) to ensure implementation of Fraud Management programs through embedding of RBB and CIB policies to reduce losses.
  • To assist in ensuring the implementation of Fraud Management programs through embedding of RBB and CIB policies to reduce losses.
  • To embed fraud prevention/detection processes and procedures, including systems to manage fraud losses within the given budget.
  • Tailor approach as necessary for in-country nuances and provide output to CIB & RBB Centre Fraud Strategy and further support with the execution as and when required.
  • Work with industry counterparts and Fraud Strategy to deal with emerging fraud trends.
  • Represent the Bank in national industry Fraud forums.
  • Respond to high fraud exposure incidents.
  • Provide guidance, oversight and approval on Pan-African NAPA processes (New Product) where requested.
  • Review of Forensic Investigation Reports and provide root cause analysis back to the business with remedial recommendations/ tracking recommendations tracker.
  • Link to, and participate in network of stakeholders e.g., other banks, investigators, law enforcement agencies, Card Schemes and Absa risk and compliance functions collate and interpret loss exposure and data.
  • Steer the Fraud Operations team to undertake desktop investigations into suspicious fraudulent activities.
  • Provide expertise and intelligence on fraud prevention, related risk management information and control.
  • Minimize fraud losses and maximize recoveries. Report recommendations and track them out of investigations results.
  • Develop training on fraud awareness courses workshops, brochures and other material to alert employees as to the bank's policy on fraud and how to detect, investigate and report on fraud.
  • Develop and implement appropriate fraud awareness materials for customers and further support execution, co-ordinate and give input in relation to the Pan-African Education and Awareness Plan where necessary, for in-country.
  • Engage with law enforcement agencies where required, in all aspect of fraud suspicious incidents and build intelligence.
  • Collaborate and share in country information / intelligence in conjunction with CSO, Fin Crime & Forensics with CIB and RBB Fraud Strategy Centre and other ARO Countries.
  • Monitor all P & L and suspense accounts related to the Fraud function.
  • Be proactive in safeguarding customer interests.
  • Review and support with the implementation of fraud monitoring tools.
  • Provide expertise and intelligence on fraud prevention, related risk management and controls and reporting of fraud to the various forums.
  • Compile and consolidate of in-country Fraud KRI’s within input from stakeholders and further assist in Risk escalation and Monitoring and Reporting to center Fraud Strategy.
  • Check and Challenge Fraud Risk Appetite in-country and thereafter consolidated Fraud Risk Appetite into overall in-country appetite.
  • Implement the Fraud Operating Model to operationalize Fraud Monitoring Solutions as agreed.
  • Provide guidance, check and challenge on threat assessment performed in-country and further report on Product Threat Assessments to CIB & RBB Fraud Strategy Centre.
  • Perform and coordinate with spot checks at branches on a regular basis and in other high risk operation areas.
  • Perform fraud risk assessment across the various functions and provide input for the annual fraud strategy.

Risk and Control: Time split 10%

  • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Absa Policies and Policy Standards.

Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role.
