Financial Analyst – Renewable Energy Investments
Stellenbosch, South Africa

A leading renewable energy investment company is looking for a Financial Analyst to join their Stellenbosch-based team. About the Role

As a Financial Analyst, you’ll play a key role in supporting the development, financing, and execution of energy projects. You’ll build and maintain project finance models, analyse investment opportunities, support debt and equity structuring, and contribute to strategic capital optimisation. This position offers exposure to project finance, corporate finance, portfolio monitoring, and M&A activities within the renewable energy sector.

Key Responsibilities
Banking & Treasury
  • Monitor and forecast cash positions across the group and project entities.
  • Liaise with local and international financial institutions on treasury products, guarantees, FX, and letters of credit.
  • Support negotiations on banking facilities and project financing structures.
Financial Modelling & Analysis
  • Build and optimise detailed project finance models.
  • Run sensitivities and scenario analyses to assess risks and project viability.
  • Ensure all models align with contractual and financial documentation.
  • Assist in developing a centralised project database.
Project Finance & Transaction Support
  • Support debt and equity structuring with lenders and investors.
  • Assist with financial due diligence across legal, technical, and insurance workstreams.
  • Prepare financial sections of investment papers and lender presentations.
  • Contribute to financial close processes, including model audits and Q&A.
Investment Committee Support
  • Work with technical and business development teams to assess project feasibility.
  • Support the preparation of project models and credit assessments submitted to committees.
  • Manage administrative tasks such as scheduling, distributing documents, and maintaining committee records.
  • Provide financial input for bid submissions, PPAs, and commercial agreements.
  • Conduct cost benchmarking and market research.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting
  • Track financial performance of operating assets vs. budget and forecasts.
  • Update post-close financial models for actual results and assumption changes.
  • Assist with portfolio-level reporting and valuation for internal and shareholder reporting.
  • Monitor covenant compliance across funding arrangements.
Strategic & Corporate Finance
  • Contribute to capital structuring, budgeting, and portfolio optimisation.
  • Support M&A assessments, valuations, and due diligence processes.
  • Assist with acquisition, refinancing, and divestment analysis.
Continuous Improvement
  • Help refine processes, strengthen internal controls, and support automation initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • Professional certification (e.g., CA, CFA) is beneficial.
Experience & Skills
  • 1–2 years’ experience in finance or accounting, preferably in project-based or investment environments.
  • Strong Excel skills, including financial modelling and macros.
  • Solid grounding in accounting, corporate finance, and investment concepts.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
