Job Title: Expert Engineer: Water Sector Infrastructure Projects

Location: Cape Town CBD, with occasional travel across South Africa

Salary: R1,000,000 per annum

About the Role:

Our client seeks an Expert Engineer to drive innovation and excellence in large-scale water infrastructure projects. This key role involves working with municipalities to develop and implement critical water sector initiatives, including wastewater treatment plants, reservoirs, dams, and potable sanitation technologies.

The successful candidate will lead feasibility assessments, project planning, and execution, focusing on procurement and effective contractor management. With a strong technical background and leadership skills, the engineer will help ensure the delivery of sustainable, impactful solutions in water infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Feasibility and Development: Assess the viability of large-scale water infrastructure projects, advising municipalities on technical and financial feasibility.
  • Project Implementation: Oversee procurement and manage contractors, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery of water projects.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide advanced engineering insights for sustainable water and wastewater infrastructure solutions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with municipalities, government bodies, and private sector stakeholders to align project goals with community needs.
  • Contractor Oversight: Supervise and guide service providers, ensuring compliance with standards and best practices.
  • Resource Management: Assist in budgeting, resource allocation, and risk management for infrastructure projects.
  • Strategic Contribution: Support building a pipeline of potential projects and drive innovation in water sector technologies.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Postgraduate qualification in Engineering, Resource Management, or a related field (Masters degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in the water sector, focusing on large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of sustainable water and wastewater technologies, including non-sewered sanitation systems.
  • Proven experience in managing contractors and delivering infrastructure projects successfully.
  • Familiarity with municipal processes and project funding mechanisms in South Africa.
Competencies and Skills:
  • Proficiency in Sage, QuickBooks, and other financial management tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build lasting stakeholder relationships.
  • Knowledge of South Africa's water policies, regulations, and investment frameworks.
Advantages:
  • Professional experience with organisations like Green Building Council SA, Water Research Commission, or City of Cape Town Water & Sanitation Department.
  • Membership in WISA (Water Institute of South Africa) or YWP (Young Water Professionals).
  • Fluency in multiple South African languages.
