Job description

Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Executive Chef to lead our culinary operations within a boarding school setting. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering exceptional dining experiences for students, staff, and guests while maintaining the highest standards of food quality, safety, and presentation.

Key Responsibilities:
Menu Management:
  • Develop and manage a cycle menu that meets nutritional standards and caters to diverse dietary needs, including African style dishes.
  • Ensure all menus align with budgetary constraints and client requirements.
  • Create function menus for events (300+ guests), from planning through execution, ensuring creativity and cost-effectiveness.
Procurement & Inventory:
  • Place and manage orders according to the cycle menu and portion specifications.
  • Maintain accurate inventory control and minimize waste through efficient planning.
Event & Function Execution:
  • Organize and oversee large-scale functions, ensuring seamless coordination and timely delivery.
  • Supervise plating and food setup for events, maintaining high standards of presentation.
Team Leadership & Communication:
  • Lead, train, and motivate kitchen staff to foster a collaborative and efficient work environment.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, clients, and the school community to ensure expectations are met.
Client & Community Engagement:
  • Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with clients, students, and staff.
  • Represent the culinary team positively within the school community.
Compliance & Standards:
  • Adhere strictly to portion specifications and food safety regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in all kitchen operations.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Proven experience as an Executive Chef or Head Chef in a high-volume environment (preferably educational or institutional catering).
  • Strong knowledge of GP calculations, budgeting, and cost control.
  • Expertise in menu planning, procurement, and large-scale event catering.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Culinary certification or equivalent professional training preferred.
