The Role

As a Special Needs Education Assistant you will, under teacher direction, assist in the delivery of education programmes and promote a supportive and inclusive learning environment. You will support teachers in the planned delivery of education programmes to enable students to reach their full potential across academic, social, emotional and physical domains, including the use of computers and digital technologies. You will also provide feedback on education and therapy programmes and participate in evaluation related to the achievement of special education goals.

You should have a high level of interpersonal skills and collaborate with staff to meet student needs. Applicants will ideally possess knowledge and experience working with students who have a range of disabilities and learning difficulties and the ability to support academic and social growth within the classroom setting.

Eligibility

  • Consent to a Screening Clearance Number and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.

  • A CV of up to two (2) pages outlining your employment history and professional learning summary relevant to this position.
  • A three‑page statement addressing the selection criteria as outlined in the attached JDF. The statement should demonstrate:
    1. Good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programmes, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
    2. Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programmes, including special education and therapy programmes where these have been implemented.
    3. Good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programmes to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
    4. Ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programmes, including special education and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programmes.
    5. Knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
    6. Ability to assist with the general health and well‑being of students.
