Job summary

A client in the chemical business is seeking a Driver to ensure professional and timely delivery of customer orders in the Durban area. Candidates must have at least 3 years of driving experience, a valid Code 10 driver’s license, and strong communication skills. The position involves operating in a production and warehouse environment with safety requirements due to chemicals. This is a full-time role with standard working hours.

Our client is in the chemical business and is looking for a Driver that meets the requirements of this job spec.

The successful candidate will need to provide professional and timeous delivery of customer orders, as well as collections from suppliers when so required. Furthermore, the successful candidate will be responsible for some warehouse activities.

Qualifications
  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a Driver (at least 3 years’ professional driving experience).
  • A valid Code 10 driver’s license, with PrDP.
  • Knowledge of safety requirements in dealing with and transporting flammable, corrosive, acid, and alkaline goods.
  • A Forklift License is highly advantageous.
  • Knowledge of area, roads and neighbourhoods.
  • Strong communication skills - Ability to read, write and speak English well.
  • Stock Management (counting).
Minimum Requirements

Key Performance Areas
Technical Duties
  • Conduct a check and complete checklist for vehicle, daily.
  • Follow the daily work instructions as provided each morning by the Supervisor.
  • Perform “shunting” duties, driving goods (pallets, packaging, stock) between factory & warehouse – ad hoc.
  • Check documentation to verify it matches the goods being transported.
  • Responsible for the collection and delivery of paperwork between warehouse and administration (factory) – ad hoc.
  • Collection of packaging from storage facility.
  • Assist with deliveries to customers.
  • Safeguard and take care of company vehicle / tools / equipment.
  • Responsible to fuel vehicle (petrol card) and maintain all slips, etc. Give all documentation to administration.
  • Monitor vehicle / tools and advise if there are any issues, for rectification.
  • Assist, as required, with FLT stock movement (loading and offloading).
  • Assist with packer / storeman duties.
Administration
  • Ensure accurate recordkeeping and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures (including quality controls).
Health & Safety Management
  • Ensure full compliance with relevant Health and Safety legislation and company policies and procedures.
  • Wear required PPE in designated areas.
  • Operate all machinery in full accordance with instructions and safety precautions.
  • Immediately report any non-compliance via the Health and Safety Officers.
Working Conditions
  • Production & Warehouse area.
  • Delivery / collections to customers within greater Durban area.
  • Movement of products and raw materials (pallets and flow bins, etc.).
  • Apron, goggles, respirator (if required), and gloves are required due to chemicals in use.
  • Normal work hours: 07h30 – 16h00; overtime based on operational requirements.
