A leading engineering consultancy seeks a Design Civil Technologist in Midrand, South Africa, to perform civil engineering design activities including 3D modelling and preparation of construction drawings. Job Description

Key Role

The Design Engineer performs a variety of civil engineering design activities including 3D modelling of engineering designs and associated preparation of preliminary through to wayleave and construction drawings for projects, establishing guidelines and procedures and managing workload distribution within the Design team. The incumbent must be familiar with Autodesk Suite of design software tools. Proven competence in engineering design using Civil3D. The incumbent must be able to develop and interpret civil engineering detail design work under the guidance of the professional engineer or professional technologist. The opportunity exists for either the Cape Town or Midrand in Johannesburg.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Design of Civil infrastructure using Civil3D (Roads, pipe networks, bulk earthworks etc.).
  • Project management and interfacing with other engineering disciplines on multi-disciplinary projects
  • Provide technical input from initial assessment through technical and economic feasibility to design development and construction implementation to project close out
  • Carry out investigations, surveys, design, engineering calculations and preparation of working drawings and estimates
  • Review overall project design and suggest technical and design improvements
  • Assist with the preparation of cost estimates on project designs
  • Detail oriented with strong skills in municipal Infrastructure and roads
  • Ability to work in a team environment and must have excellent verbal and written skills

Qualifications

Qualifications And Experience Required

  • Minimum of BEng. / BSc (Civil Engineering) or BTech (Civil Engineering)
  • 2-5 years’ experience in civil engineering.
  • Must be registered with ECSA as Candidate Engineer.
  • Knowledge of the relevant standards, regulations and legislation in engineering
