A government agency is seeking a Deputy Superintendent Operations at youth detention facilities responsible for overseeing daily management and ensuring the safety of young individuals in custody. The Banksia Hill Detention Centre (the Centre) is Western Australia’s facility for sentenced and remanded young people aged between 10–18 years old. The Centre is directly responsible for ensuring the safety and security of young people in custody, in alignment with the principles outlined in the Young Offenders Act 1994 and Young Offender Regulations 1995. In July 2022, Unit 18 – Youth Detention Centre was gazetted as a Youth Detention Centre located at Casuarina Prison with the same responsibilities and aligning with the principles adhered to at Banksia Hill Detention Centre.
The Deputy Superintendent Operations directs the day-to-day operations and services at Banksia Hill Detention Centre and Unit 18 – Youth Detention Centre, ensuring young people participate in a structured day incorporating education, programs and vocational activities. The position will deputise for the Superintendent, including undertaking legislatively prescribed responsibilities, and be responsible for the management of any major incident.
Permanent positions – To be eligible for appointment to permanent positions in the West Australian Public Sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia.
WWC positions – In accordance with the National Child Safety Principles, people who work directly with children and young people, you must have a current Working with Children Check or be able to successfully apply for one to be eligible for appointment to this position.
