Overview
Our client, a high-tech dental surgery based in Johannesburg, is seeking to recruit an experienced Dental Laboratory Assistant.
Responsibilities
- Pouting models from impressions (mixing dental stone, filling impressions, setting and removing casts)
- Trimming and finishing models for clinical or lab use
- Fabricating simple bleaching trays and retainers (forming, trimming, polishing)
- Using moulds, digital impressions, and clinical measurements to create dental prosthetics
- Fabricating, adjusting, repairing, and modifying dental prosthetics using various materials
- Performing basic quality checks to ensure work is clean, accurate, and ready for use
- Handling, labelling, storing, and preparing lab materials and tools
- Preparing cases/models for technicians and supporting workflow efficiency
- Packing, organizing, and dispatching completed cases
- Keeping benches, equipment, and materials clean, organized, and stocked
- Maintaining dental laboratory equipment and ensuring proper care
- Assisting clinicians with dental procedures (general and specialized care)
- Designing and executing complex prosthetic procedures (implants, digital smile design)
- Ability to accurately record information, complete forms, and manage case status
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a dental laboratory assistant or in a similar lab support role
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Certificate or short course in Dental Laboratory Assistance or related field preferred but not mandatory

- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Strong attention to detail and precision in handling small components
- High accuracy in both routine and complex tasks
- Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team
- Reliable, organized, and consistent in following instructions
- Team-oriented with willingness to support senior technicians
- Flexible and willing to assist with additional tasks when required
- Knowledge of dental anatomy, materials, and laboratory techniques
- Proficiency using dental tools, equipment, and relevant technology
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Maintains a clean and orderly workspace
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel for data entry and tracking
- Experience with dental lab management software is an advantage (training provided)
- Willingness to learn new digital tools and systems
- Willingness to remain up to date with new dental technologies, materials, and workflows
Working hours
Monday to Friday: 08:00 - 17:00
