Data Governance and Privacy Lead

About the Role

As the Data Governance and Privacy Lead, you will be a seasoned subject‑matter expert responsible for designing, developing and implementing the company's data infrastructure and governance frameworks. You will collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to shape policies, improve data quality, and enable data‑driven decision making while ensuring security and compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to analyze data requirements, develop data models, and ensure the integrity and security of the data infrastructure.
  • Define how data will be stored, consumed, integrated and managed by various data entities and IT systems, as well as any applications that use or process that data.
  • Support the creation of a data governance framework that meets business and technology requirements while ensuring data security and compliance with regulations.
  • Integrate the framework into relevant processes across the organization.
  • Optimize data storage and retrieval, enhance data quality and governance, and guide the organization in making informed data‑driven decisions.
  • Translate business requirements into databases, data warehouses, and data streams, and design appropriate data models and structures.
  • Design and implement data integration and data flow processes to ensure efficient data movement across systems and platforms.
  • Analyze, plan, and define the data architecture framework, including security, reference data, metadata, and master data.
  • Define and implement data governance policies and procedures to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security.
  • Plan and facilitate data governance communities, workshops, and meetings.
  • Analyze existing data systems, identify improvement opportunities, and recommend innovative solutions to enhance data management and analytics capabilities.
  • Define and maintain data standards, data definitions, and data dictionaries for consistency and interoperability.
  • Define technical standards and guidelines for data use, security, access, and governance, including data quality mandates.
  • Create diagrams of key data entities and inventory the data needed to implement the architecture vision.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Seasoned understanding of data governance, data integration, data quality, data lifecycle processes, and data management best practices.
  • Enterprise‑wide business view and strong appreciation for strategy, processes, enabling technologies, and governance.
  • Experience preparing, facilitating, and driving forums, communities, workshops, and meetings across all organizational levels.
  • Strong change‑agent and communication skills to demonstrate the value of data governance and generate organizational buy‑in.
  • Excellent collaboration and relationship‑building skills with business partners at all levels.
  • Experience developing communication and training materials for data governance.
  • Solid understanding of IT domains (information, security, application, technology infrastructure, integration).
  • Problem‑solving and analytical capabilities to safeguard data integrity, security, and organizational trust.
  • Knowledge of data security and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and experience implementing data protection measures.
  • Proficiency in data modelling techniques, data warehousing concepts, and database management systems.
  • Strong SQL skills with experience in database development and performance optimization.
  • Experience with data visualization tools and techniques.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Certifications in data management (e.g., DAMA‑CP) are preferred.
  • Seasoned experience as a Data Governance Specialist or in a similar role.
  • Experience developing and implementing data governance strategies, frameworks, and operating models.
  • Experience developing training materials, conducting data governance workshops, and facilitating knowledge sharing sessions.
  • Experience with data management tools and technologies.
  • Experience developing data governance frameworks, data dictionaries, data classification schemes, and data standards.
  • Experience ensuring data governance practices align with regulatory guidelines and managing compliance audits.
