Job description

As a Clinical Pathologist, your primary duties include:

  1. Providing diagnostic evaluations in clinical pathology and necessary follow-up consultations for clients.
  2. Ensuring high standards of quality, timeliness, customer service, and effective communication skills.
  3. Performing gross and microscopic examinations of clinical pathology specimens and preparing pathology reports promptly.
  4. Meeting caseload and turnaround time expectations.
  5. Providing telephone and email consultations to clients.
  6. Collaborating with other pathologists to promote collegiality.
  7. Partnering with laboratory personnel to ensure proper specimen processing and acting as the pathologist on duty.
  8. Participating in pathologist meetings and developing professional relationships with clients to promote IDEXX’s growth.
  9. Engaging in quality control programs.
  10. Maintaining and developing diagnostic skills through ongoing education.
  11. Participating in professional activities outside routine diagnostics, as approved, to enhance IDEXX's reputation and function.

Qualifications Needed:

  1. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent.
  2. Pathology Board Certification (ACVP or ECVCP) preferred; MMedVet(CLD) also considered.
  3. Applicants from board-eligible pathologists are encouraged, with support for board studies.
  4. Fluency in English.
  5. Knowledge of current topics in veterinary medicine.
  6. Proficiency in typing and dictation equipment.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Service-oriented attitude and organizational skills.
  9. Computer literacy.
  10. Experience in a veterinary diagnostic laboratory is preferred.
  11. Located in South Africa.
