Job summary

A leading equipment service provider in South Africa is seeking a Lean Business Manager to oversee BBS initiatives and drive continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of lean experience, including 3 years in management. Responsibilities include managing the team, coaching on BBS concepts, and ensuring the delivery of projects aimed at enhancing process metrics. A degree and relevant certifications are required. This position offers an opportunity to influence organizational changes and improvements.

Job description
Key Outputs
  • Drive the objectives for the identified VSA's and RIE's within the area of responsibility (where and when applicable)
  • Manage the development of the Managing for Daily Improvement (MDI) methodology
  • Leads within the business unit through the transformation process using a coaching style and Socratic (critical thinking) learning approach at all levels
  • Frames/Develops and communicates expectations and required behavioural changes for the leadership team and various levels of employees throughout the area of responsibility
  • Provides vision to the leadership team as to “what good looks like”
  • Maintains a “transformation story” that showcases the results and ROI to BWE, presents the story as needed to compel continued improvement efforts and/or encourage employees to use the Barloworld Business System
  • Identifies existing challenges within the organization and communicates to senior leadership the possible risks and ramifications of the behaviour
  • Manage the collation of all the information and required inputs for mission control review
  • Lead RIE preparation as per the BBS preparation schedules
  • Lead sustainment program post event and ensure that all activities are completed no time and in full.
  • Ensure that site daily rhythm creates the correct short interval control to enable rapid problem solving
  • Manage the value stream steering team routine and develop the require standard work
  • Activate the escalate structure when necessary
  • Manage the training and development of the areas BBS appointed resources
Primary Output
  • Manage the BBS commitments
  • Provide execution leadership, relevant metrics, financial justification and valuation for BBS initiatives
  • Identify opportunities for replication of global best practices, establish the best practice process, ensure sharing of BWE-generated best practices and monitoring and reporting of Best Practice implementation.
  • Coach and mentor BBS managers and team members in BBS concepts
  • Coordinate the delivery of BBS projects/initiatives to drive improvement in process metrics, target financial benefits, and achieve company goals
  • Negotiate and assign resources for area of responsibility and ensure that barriers to delivery of BBS initiatives are removed
  • Provide management direction and guidance for the implementation of new/revised solutions
  • Provide oversight into the BBS projects by preparing periodic portfolio progress reports and cost savings realisation plans and actuals as required
  • BBS is operating as per standard within the area of responsibility
  • Leading the required BBS cultural change
  • Creating an enabling environment for the embedding of BBS
  • Utilise the methodology of simplification, augmentation and automation to identify opportunities to automated processes
Qualification, Experience and Competencies
  • Minimum Required Qualification: Relevant B Degree; BBS Bronze Certification or equivalent validated lean experience/accreditation
  • Minimum required experience: At least 5 years lean business experience with at least 3 years spent in management; Demonstrated experience as a lean/continuous improvement leader.
  • Successfully demonstrate Project/portfolio management; Experience in applying Statistical Analysis
