Overview
The Business Analyst – Data Analytics & Process Improvement is responsible for analysing business, operational, and agricultural-related data to support informed decision-making, optimise processes, and improve organisational performance through continuous improvement initiatives. The role combines business analysis, process analysis, data analytics, and reporting to drive efficiency, insight, and measurable performance improvements across the organisation.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior management, technical teams, and business stakeholders to translate business needs into analytical insights, process improvements, and system requirements. The role focuses on business analysis, continuous improvement, data analysis, BI support, and exploratory AI initiatives to support strategic, operational, and risk management objectives, while contributing to the profitability and sustainable growth of the existing client base.
Responsibilities
- Analyse large and complex datasets using analytical and data visualisation tools.
- Perform business analysis to support decision-making across sales, operations, and supply chain processes.
- Conduct continuous improvement and process analysis to identify inefficiencies, gaps, and optimisation opportunities across business operations.
- Elicit, analyse, document, and manage business requirements from stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Translate business needs into clear functional and data requirements for technical and development teams.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and maintain analytical, operational, and financial models.
- Generate dashboards and reports to communicate insights and recommendations to management and stakeholders.
- Provide support to Business Intelligence (BI) administration activities, including report maintenance, data validation, and user support.
- Support exploration and adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced analytics use cases, including proof-of-concept analysis and data preparation.
- Work with programmers, engineers, and senior management to identify process improvement opportunities, propose system enhancements, and develop master data strategies.
- Monitor relevant industry regulations and internal compliance requirements, providing analytical support for risk management initiatives.
- Perform ad hoc analysis and other related duties as required.
Skills and Capabilities
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with a continuous improvement mindset
- Proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools such as Python or R
- Solid business analysis skills, including requirements gathering, process mapping, and stakeholder engagement
- Experience working with data visualisation and reporting tools
- High attention to detail and ability to work with large, complex datasets
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear business insights
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, data-driven environment
- Strong understanding of process optimisation, operational efficiency, and systems thinking
- Awareness of AI, automation, and advanced analytics concepts (advantageous)
- Awareness of sustainability principles and their impact on business and operational performance (advantageous)
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Informatics, Information Science, Business Analysis, Data Analytics, or a related field
Required experience
- Proven experience with data visualisation tools (Power BI preferred)
- Proven experience in business analysis, continuous improvement, or operational analytics is advantageous
The following experience will be advantageous:
- Using SQL for data analysis
- Exposure to BI administration, data governance, or AI-related initiatives
- Exposure to regulatory, compliance, or risk-related analysis
Other Requirements
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office Suite)
- Full professional proficiency in Afrikaans and English (speaking and writing)
