We're looking for a Breaking News Editor to join Bloomberg's team in Johannesburg, where'll you will be at the heart of Bloomberg’s real-time coverage of Sub-Saharan Africa. You will scan company earnings and other corporate news to identify what matters most, follow speeches by policy makers and monitor emails, websites and even WhatsApp groups to bring our readers the news that move markets in clear, impactful headlines.

We’re looking for someone who will thrive in the high-speed environment of breaking financial, economic and political news and also also understands how AI can transform journalism -- from smarter news monitoring to optimizing how we deliver headlines, to ensure we stay ahead of the competition. And we're looking for someone who wants to help tell the Sub-Saharan Africa story.

Whether it’s tracking regulatory filings or reading new Government gazettes, you’ll ensure Bloomberg delivers accurate, timely, and insightful updates and you will own the first 15 minutes of any breaking news event-- from the headlines to the context. Collaboration is key: you’ll work closely with reporters and editors across bureaus and newsrooms worldwide to uphold Bloomberg’s reputation for speed, accuracy, and clarity.

  • Lead with urgency and accuracy — make fast, sound editorial calls as news breaks, ensuring Bloomberg’s coverage stays first and flawless.
  • Craft headlines that matter — write and edit clear, impactful copy that captures the essence of complex financial developments in seconds.
  • Champion innovation — explore and implement ways AI and automation can enhance our newsroom workflow, from monitoring to publishing.
  • Collaborate across the globe — work closely with editors, reporters, and product teams to deliver seamless, high-impact news coverage.
You’ll Need To Have
  • Experience working in a fast-paced financial or business news environment
  • Strong editorial judgment and the ability to write and edit sharp, concise headlines and provide context immediately after that.
  • The ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure
  • Comfort with data, numbers, analytics, and emerging newsroom technologies
