Job summary

A financial services provider in East London is seeking a Bookkeeper for a 2-year contract. The position involves maintaining accurate accounting records, preparing detailed financial statements, and ensuring compliance with VAT and PAYE regulations. Ideal candidates will have a Diploma/Degree in Accounting and 3–5 years of experience, as well as proficiency in accounting software such as Sage or QuickBooks. The role requires strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years’ bookkeeping experience, preferably in a multi-faceted business.
  • Strong knowledge of VAT, PAYE, UIF, and SARS eFiling.
  • Experience with fleet and fuel reconciliations is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.
  • Handle VAT calculations and submissions to SARS.
  • Administer PAYE, UIF, and SDL submissions.
  • Process monthly payroll and salary reconciliations.
  • Oversee fleet management expenses and related costs.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, and manage invoicing and reconciliations.
  • Assist with year-end audits and liaise with external auditors.

BOOKKEEPER / EAST LONDON or PORT ELIZABETH based – This is a 2-year contract position. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurate bookkeeping, preparation of detailed financial statements, PAYE and SARS submissions, VAT reporting, as well as handling fleet, fuel, and salary-related administration. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while supporting overall operations.

Requirements:

Diploma/Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

Minimum 3–5 years’ bookkeeping experience, preferably in a multi-faceted business (operations, fleet, salaries).

Strong knowledge of VAT, PAYE, UIF, and SARS eFiling.

Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or Pastel) and advanced MS Excel skills.

Experience with fleet and fuel reconciliations (advantageous).

Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and organizational abilities.

Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain accurate accounting records and general ledger entries.

Prepare monthly management accounts and detailed financial reports.

Handle VAT calculations and submissions to SARS.

Administer PAYE, UIF, and SDL submissions.

Process monthly payroll and salary reconciliations.

Oversee fleet management expenses, including fuel usage, maintenance, and related cost allocations.

Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and supplier statements.

Manage invoicing, debtors, and creditors’ reconciliations.

Assist with year-end audits and liaise with external auditors.

Support operational teams with financial reporting, budgeting, and cost control.

Ensure compliance with SARS and statutory regulations.

Prepare ad hoc financial and operational reports as required.

Salary – Negotiable depending on experience
