Job description

The Faculty of Education has a long history of productive engagement with the key issues facing education in South Africa. We offer innovative, research-based teacher education programmes and run large postgraduate programmes in various disciplines in education. Our dedication to improving the education system has led to engagement with schools in research and school improvement projects.

As part of the strategic plan for Teaching and Learning, the university is vigorously promoting the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. The Faculty of Education seeks to appoint an Administrative Officer in the Department of Educational Studies to assist with all administrative processes in order to ensure alignment and compliance with central administrative systems and procedures.

Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas:

The duties and responsibilities of the successful incumbent will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Academic Administration
  • Marks Administration
  • Enquiry Management
  • Financial and Human Resources Administration
  • Asset Management
  • Events Administration
  • Committee Meeting Administration
  • Marketing
  • General Administration
  • Teaching Practice Administration, including
    • Administrative support to the Teaching Practice Co-ordinator; communication about teaching practice placements with staff, students, supervisors and schools
    • School-related Administration: Manage students’ portfolios; filing; record keeping; preparing documentation for meetings; telephonic communication with all stakeholders; documenting the teaching practice experiences of students; preparing reports on schools; advising students on school choices for placement; advising schools and other stakeholders on student placements, and final placement of students
    • Micro teaching lab Management: Maintenance of the micro teaching labs, equipment, and teaching practice resources, and administer lab bookings.
  • Grade 12 and at least a post-matric qualification at NQF level 6
  • At least 3 years' administrative experience (at least 2 years should be within Higher Education)
  • Working knowledge of a student enrolment management system / University systems (SASI, MAS, etc)
  • Experience in financial administration
  • Computer Literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace
