Job description

Our client is looking for a skilled and experienced Accountant to join their retail business based in the beautiful Southern Drakensberg. This full-time, on-site role is ideal for someone who thrives on managing complex financial operations while leading and coordinating a busy office environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all financial operations including planning, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Manage accounting processes, prepare monthly management accounts and financial statements.
  • Monitor cash flow and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate with department heads to align financial strategies and manage financial risk.
  • Supervise and guide a large admin team to ensure systems are implemented and maintained.
  • Take ownership of reporting to group owners for multiple stores and properties.
  • Identify and resolve inaccuracies or issues raised by junior staff/ability to train junior staff.
  • Review stock, cash, and other systems to identify weaknesses and implement improvements.
  • Maintain up-to-date processes and rectify shortcomings timeously.
  • Control all documentation (financial, legal, HR) across all entities.
  • Prepare and submit VAT and PAYE submissions to SARS.
  • Manage payroll processes and ensure correct tax implications for staff.
  • Review and balance inter-company loan accounts.
  • Extract and interpret key financial information for decision-making.
  • Train and mentor junior staff as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Proven skills in financial planning, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Experience managing accounting processes and preparing financial statements.
  • Strong leadership, coordination, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of payroll processes and inventory controls.
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems (experience with Sigma and Easy Accounts advantageous but not essential).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to reside in the Southern Drakensberg region
