Overview

Nova Pioneer is in search of Cambridge IGCSE and A-level Chemistry teachers for the Ruimsig Secondary School, to start in 2026. The role focuses on an enquiry-based learning approach within an innovative network of schools developing future innovators and leaders in Africa.

About the Role

We are looking for an exceptional Chemistry Teacher to teach senior grades in 2026. Resident teachers lead instruction and planning for subject or grade level classrooms and drive a rigorous, enquiry-based learning environment. They are supported by Deans of Instruction who observe lessons, provide feedback and coaching, and mentor apprentice teachers. See the teaching model at Nova Pioneer below.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver exceptional, real-world, enquiry-based Chemistry lessons that align with Cambridge curriculum requirements
  • Prepare students to sit IGCSE, AS, and A-level exams
  • Design rigorous lesson plans
  • Deliver impactful and engaging enquiry-based lessons supported by technology
  • Observe, coach, and model best teaching practices for new teachers
  • Infuse joy and passion for learning to engage students academically
  • Set and communicate rigorous, ambitious goals and provide feedback for student growth
  • Conduct ongoing assessment and use data to adjust instructional content and delivery
  • Attend weekly feedback meetings with Deans and learning designers
  • Participate in professional growth opportunities including daily team meetings, weekly PD, and coaching
  • Communicate regularly with parents via email, phone, and conferences
  • Contribute to co-curricular programming for at least one activity per term
  • Join collaborative teams and committees and fulfill supervision duties including occasional morning, evening, and weekend events
About You

Skills and Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Chemistry as a major or a similar degree + Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) is essential
  • SACE registered
  • University-level Biology as a major through the third year
  • Experience teaching Biology at upper/advanced school level (Grade 10-12)
  • Experience and/or understanding of Cambridge curriculum objectives
  • Ability to lead a classroom independently
  • Passion for teaching and commitment to student success
  • Understanding of and passion for enquiry-based, student-centered learning
  • Strong ability to connect with the target age group
  • Team player with collaborative problem-solving skills
  • Adept at using technology for instruction
