Overview

The opportunity: We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Senior Service Engineer – SCMS to join our team. In this role, you will work independently in the Grid Automation field with opportunities to hold technical discussions with customers and travel across the country.

As a responsible Senior Service Engineer overseeing the SLA Programs, Retrofit Upgradations, Extensions and Modifications of Substation Automation systems for assignments classified as medium or high complexity. Manage completion of all site activities efficiently, cost-effectively, and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Representing the Service Engineering function at project and customer meetings.
  • Contributing to creation of the project execution philosophy and plan. Manages implementation of the project philosophy and plan.
  • Supporting continuous improvement of project process and product and system design via provision of lessons learned feedback.
  • Supporting Project Managers in issuing claims (new scope of work, cost impact, time impact, risk quantifications etc.)
  • Managing implementation of changes in design and commissioning as per change management processes.
  • Supporting tendering team to estimate efforts required for service engineering activities
  • Collaborating with other teams to solve challenging problems.
  • Creating work plans for work in own area of responsibility and proactively manages this work to deliver the agreed program on time, on quality and at targeted cost.
  • Conducting risk and opportunity assessments in real time during execution of service engineering activities to ensure safe implementation of the project philosophy and identification of potential variation requests to support contract claims.
  • Reporting early any contract/quality/program/cost issues to management, along with recommendations for resolution.
  • Acting as the Hitachi Energy lead for service engineering activities on a project.
  • Ensuring that Hitachi Energy is presented as a professional organization in all interactions with the customer. Interfaces with customers and external providers for approval of plant acceptance criteria, open issues closure and acceptance tests. Coordinates site activities focused on finalizing customer acceptance certification.
  • Managing external organizations, providing Service Engineering team with equipment, systems or services (e.g. issues permit to work, providing guidance on health and safety requirements and work practices, acceptings complete work done).
  • Actively developing and coaching colleagues. Cultivates a network of engineering colleagues both within and outside own business unit. It takes a lead role in developing function within own business unit gathering and sharing best practice.
  • Following and providing feedback on standard processes and tools. Ensures implementation of agreed processes and procedures to ensure that all site activities comply with the required safety regulations and satisfy contractual requirements.
  • Preparing project documentation such as Schedule, SAT, MoS, RA, Site Visit Reports, Incident Reports, RCA, etc in coordination with TL & PM
  • Preparing design documentation, HMI and database as per project requirements.
  • Performing modification, extension and upgrade works including scheme checks, system power up, system integration, communication verification, database engineering and modifications, signal tests, implement cybersecurity controls, cybersecurity tests, SAT, energization checks, etc.
  • Performing preventative and corrective maintenance works.
  • Obtaining approvals from customers for Service Engineering activities on SCMS systems.
  • Allowing and implementing safety rules on project sites according to regulations
  • Proactive coordination and reporting to Service Engineering Team Leader.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background
  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Knowledge of Substation Automation Systems and different communication protocols (i.e., IEC101, IEC104, IEC61850, LON, SPA, Modbus, etc.).
  • In-depth product knowledge of both Hitachi Energy MicroSCADA and RTU systems and IEDs of various makes.
  • Experience in MS Office, Visio, IET, ITT, PCM, MiCOM, Digsi, etc.
  • Knowledge of control and interlocking logic in substations.
  • Intermediate knowledge of OT cybersecurity requirements.
  • 6 to 10 years of experience as SCMS engineer with design and commissioning experience of related systems and products.
  • Proficiency in both spoken & written English is required.
