Job description

Primary objective:

To provide continual and unwavering support to the school Principal in all aspects of school life. As the school grows into the full senior school in the next two years this role requires strategic development and operation of careers guidance to students from grade 7 to 12. To ensure students in the school are aware of the developing options in the local and international labour markets and further education pathways. To ensure students have access to the latest information regarding skills, processes, and be prepared for acceptance at top university destinations locally, nationally, and internationally. To be culturally astute, the ability to foster strong relationships and ensure each student can access further education according to their needs, performance, and aspirations. Be innovative and make a difference.

Areas of responsibility:

  • Be an active member of the school’s middle leadership team including: contributing to the development of the school’s aims and objectives; working towards the achievements of those aims; evaluating the impact of the school’s work; whole school quality assurance; professional completion of all tasks agreed by the Principal.
  • Utilise and develop university destinations software (Unifrog) as an integral part of the university guidance system.
  • Train and support form tutors with use of university destinations software, reference writing etc.
  • Plan and integrate careers guidance program in collaboration with the assistant principal of Well-being for grades 7-12 during registration and assembly times.
  • Be the first port of call for any university guidance for school stakeholders (parents, students, members of staff etc.)
  • Organise parental engagement sessions regarding careers guidance and university applications.
  • To liaise with VP data and assessment and also coordinate with HoDs and school’s examinations officers with organizing standardised testing requirements for university admissions e.g., PSAT, SAT, IELTS, Qudurat, Tahsili etc.
  • Prepare and deliver careers and university preparation lessons/assemblies to students according to year group needs.
  • Provide one to one sessions with students to support and explore careers and university pathways.
  • Organize university expo/fair visits, guest speakers and any relevant event to support careers guidance.
  • Analyse various data (GL data, IGCSE results, summative tests, other standardized tests) to support and develop personalised careers plans for students.
  • Record student data relevant to careers guidance and development of 21st century skills using university destination software.
  • Coordinate with student leadership facilitators with recording students leadership achievements in preparation for careers and university applications.
  • Contribute to grades 8 and 10 transition and options evenings.
  • Coordinate student university applications ensuring references and personal statements/ college essays are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Ensure student transcripts and relevant requirements are ready for timely university application submissions.
  • Develop links and relationships with external vendors with supporting student careers and university guidance needs.
  • Support and liaise with colleagues from the girls’ section and share good practice.
  • Coordinate with the head of learning support for students requiring special assistance regarding careers readiness.
  • Develop links with further education institutes locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Develop the Misk alumni community.

Student responsibility:

  • Ensure all students successfully choose a suitable career pathway and enter further education.
  • Support the Principal to ensure that all students meet the school’s progress and attainment targets.

Teaching responsibility (non essential for specialist candidates):

  • Only if required, to teach no more than 12 lessons per week as directed by the Principal.
  • To support with cover and duty as needed by the Principal.

Safeguarding:

  • The post holder will be required to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people and follow the school’s safeguarding policies and the staff code of conduct. They will directly support the Designated Safeguarding Lead as a priority to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students at the school.

Suitable qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree (essential).
  • Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent (desirable).
  • Careers/ College counselling certification (desirable).
  • Masters Degree in Education (desirable).

Experience:

  • 5 years’ experience of working within an educational environment.
  • 3 years’ of high/secondary school or tertiary sector university application experience.
  • Strong understanding of the current global university admissions experience.
  • Evidence of engaging relevant stakeholders.
  • Evidence of contributing to, or driving, successful academic results (context appropriate).

Skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • Knowledge of US, UK and KSA university admissions processes including US common application, UCAS and direct admissions procedures.
  • Understanding of standardized testing requirements for top university admissions including IGCSE, A level, SAT, IELTS, Qudurat, Tahsili and any other relevant systems.
  • Familiar with enrichment activities that boost university acceptance including super curricular and student led projects.
  • Familiar with careers/university destinations software (ideally unifrog).
  • Understanding of the British curriculum (IGCSEs and A levels).
  • A can-do and solutions driven attitude when facing challenges.
  • Actively remain up to date with changes in careers and university requirements.
  • The ability to work as part of a group of schools, developing effective professional relationships with peers.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Recent evidence of relevant CPD.
  • Understanding of the use of assessment to inform student centered guidance discussions.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage differences in expectations, personalities, and experience within a team.
  • Ability to engage, enthuse and motivate members of staff, students and parents.
  • Ability to organize, plan and prioritize effectively, managing personal responsibilities.
  • IT proficiency including all Microsoft and Google office tools.
  • Able to work under pressure and prioritize effectively.
  • Experience in engaging with the parent body, including forward facing presentations.
  • Experience in working with students who have a variety of learning, social and psychological needs.
  • Strong understanding of the support students require in order to achieve successful university applications and entrance to top universities.
